What different properties and characteristics can Steel Materials obtain under different processing methods?

Steel materials can obtain a variety of different properties and characteristics under different processing methods. Here are some of the main treatments and their impact on steel properties and characteristics:
1.Heat treatment:
Quenching: Through rapid cooling, the structure of the steel changes, increasing the hardness and strength, but may reduce the toughness.
Tempering: performed after quenching. Through heating and slow cooling, the quenching stress is eliminated and the toughness is improved while maintaining a certain hardness.
Annealing: Through heating and slow cooling, the steel structure is uniformized, the hardness and strength are reduced, and the plasticity and toughness are improved.
2. Alloying:
Adding alloy elements: such as chromium, nickel, tungsten, etc., can significantly improve the corrosion resistance, hardness, strength and other properties of steel. For example, elements such as chromium are added to stainless steel to improve corrosion resistance.
3. Cold processing:
Cold drawing and cold rolling: These processes increase the hardness and strength of steel through plastic deformation, but reduce the plasticity and toughness.
4. Surface treatment:
Galvanizing and spraying: increase the corrosion resistance and appearance quality of steel.
Shot peening treatment: The surface of steel is impacted by shot blasting to improve surface hardness and fatigue strength.
5. Forging and rolling:
Forging: Deforming steel by hammering or pressure to increase density and mechanical properties.
